Telecom Headsets

ORIGIN OF HEADSETS

In 1961, two American pilots, Keith Larkin and Courtney Graham, developed a lightweight headset as a replacement for the hand-held microphones used by pilots in commercial airliners.  This was the start of Plantronics, the world's most successful developer and manufacturer of telecom headsets.  During the 1960's, Plantronics became the provider of specialist communication headsets to NASA.  Astronaut Wally Schirra, asked if Plantronics could develop a headset which would fit inside his helmet.  The rest is history, culminating in the transmission of one of the most famous statements imprinted on the world's collective consciousness:

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" -

headsets in action
Headsets are becoming more and more a part of our modern way of life, at every level - in offices and homes, on the move with bluetooth headsets linking to mobile phones, and for professional and private use.  There are four fundamental reasons why:-

Ergonomics Ergonomics Holding a handset between the shoulder and the ear puts unnecessary strain on the back, neck and shoulder.  A headset relieves this tension and increases comfort and effectiveness.

Ergonomics Hands-Free Holding a handset makes it difficult to multi-task efficiently.  A wired or wireless headset frees up your hands to enter data into a computer, leaf through a book or document, or take detailed notes.  Current UK legislation prohibits the use of hand-held mobiles whilst driving - the simple answer is bluetooth-enabled headsets, allowing you to make and receive mobile calls in your car.

Ergonomics Mobility A wireless system not only lets you make full use of both hands, it frees you up entirely.  You can leave your desk, even your office to find a document, pick up a fax, signal to a colleague or just stretch your legs, without interrupting the conversation.

Ergonomics Efficiency Being comfortable and mobile will inevitably result in increased efficiency and better performance - a guaranteed return on investment.
