POLARIS BROADBAND SDSL

Polaris Low Cost Broadband: SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line)

SDSL is a technology that provides the ability to download and upload data at the same throughput rate - the data flows at the same rate in both directions.  The SDSL service is principally aimed at medium sized businesses and organisations and is used in situations where connecting machines or networks require high bandwidth in both directions - for example, a company with a number of branches that need to access a centralised or hosted server system, with real-time connection to systems and applications.

The service is provided over a metallic path, dedicated exclusively to the delivery of SDSL, and requires a specialised SDSL router.  It is not possible to provide "narrowband" voice services over this connection.

SDSL has more business bandwidth flexibility than ADSL.  You can select the symmetric bandwidth that you desire from your service provider.  The service can be packaged in a wide range of bandwidth configurations, from 1 Mbps, to over 8 Mbps.  Remember, the greater your distance from the Central Office, the attainable data transfer speed is lowered, regardless of its availability.

Even sending an email with a large attachment can be difficult and slow on ADSL.  SDSL, on the other hand, provides plenty of upstream speed to meet the bandwidth needs of most common business applications.
